Solar thermal panels use solar radiation to generate hot water or home heating. A solar panel installation is simple, and consists of a set of panels facing the sun, usually fixed in place, that heat water in circulating to one or more hot water deposits. Normally the system works in conjunction with an existing electric or gas boiler to complement the action of the sun.
When combined with green roofs, solar thermal panels gain efficiency (perhaps around 6%) due to lower roof temperatures. Simultaneously, the solar panels also can provide shade that is favorable to certain species of plants.
