Green roof in Porxos d’en Xifré The emblematic group of buildings known as the Porxos d’en Xifré, bears one of the largest green roofs in Barcelona. One of the buildings (Llauder St., 1) is one of the winners of the Barcelona City Council green roof competition. This property, along with the other three that surround it, demonstrates the first phase of naturalization of the roofs of the buildings. Sergio Carratala from MataAltaStudio is the designer of this space. As it is a heritage building, recovery tasks have been carried out on the pre-existing structure such as cleaning the walls, belvederes, panels, access patios, the telephone, and refrigeration facilities, etc. Solar panels have been installed in the skylights and rainwater collection tanks. Eixverd has been responsible for the green part on top of the EPDM waterproofing. We have installed the technical layers, irrigation, substrate and plants. The first finished property was that of Llauder St., 1. Eixverd was working between June and October 2019. There are more than 3000 plants, a dozen trees, a pond and a couple of vegetable patches.
