Experimental green wall at Nest Through a grant received through the “Impulsem el que fas” program, from the City Council of Barcelona, we have been able to carry out this project by testing three types of agricultural green wall systems in three different orientations and climatic conditions. The project has been installed at the Nest de Apocapoc headquarters, an industrial warehouse renovated with permaculture techniques in Poble Nou. The main objective of the project is to change the approach to sustainable nutrition and link it with concepts of circular economy and ecological agriculture. They want to raise awareness that it can also be grown vertically, albeit in a limited way. This is precisely what we want to teach and evaluate: which systems work best and what can be planted in each system. We will measure the results of the project with the following indicators: 1-Number of vertical wall typologies tested. 2-Production of horticultural crops associated with each type of wall. 3-Orientations and climatic conditions of the walls. 4-Number of visitors 5-Number of guided visits to the experimental wall. We hope to spread values, such as circular economy, urban and vertical agriculture, 0 km and seasonal food, environmentalism, and self-management. We hope to enlighten minds and awaken curiosity by showing that projects that encompass new consumption systems are possible and that everyone can successfully implement them. At the same time, we hope to make visible solutions to architectural barriers in urban areas, along with the reconquest of green. This project, together with that of Nest, is a formal declaration that the city needs green and that it is time to re-evaluate the newly implanted square meters of green in Barcelona. We intend the green wall project to be a benchmark and a laboratory for new proposals and solutions. If you want to visit the experimental green wall, just ask us!
